Advocacy Committee

Connections
Advocates will serve as a voice for Miriam out in the community! We will provide training, talking points and materials to equip you for these interactions.
You may visit:
- Doctor/therapist/counselor offices from a list provided by Miriam
- Introduce yourself as a representative of Miriam
- Offer bookmarks and brochures for them to pass on to patients who could benefit from Miriam services
- Local libraries
- Inquire about sensory friendly programming and if they need support from Miriam
- Request that the staff display Miriam bookmarks
- Other entities or organizations that can share information with their patients or patrons
Community/Word of Mouth
We need your assistance promoting our mission through word-of-mouth and community presence. This is a great fit for those who enjoy grassroots efforts and spreading the word in meaningful ways. In fact, word of mouth is the No. 1 way people tell us they have learned about Miriam.
- Social media - We ask that Advocates who are active and comfortable on social media start including Miriam in your online communications.
- Follow Miriam social media platforms
- Share Miriam’s posts to your own network when appropriate
- Create your own posts regarding your involvement with Miriam and how we make a difference
- Use your network - Talk about Miriam in conversations within your own networks. Let others know about opportunities for enrollment, services and contributions. These networks might include:
- Family members and close friends
- Church/temple congregations
- Neighborhood groups
- Parent groups at school (other than Miriam)
Parent Ambassadors
A Parent Ambassador is an enthusiastic, engaged current or former Miriam parent who volunteers to connect with prospective and new Miriam families.
Why is this an important position?
-
Hearing first-hand from a parent who has “been there” is far more powerful than simply receiving information from the school.
-
New families will appreciate the connection and support as they and their children become acclimated at Miriam.
