Integrated Therapies

Occupational Therapy, Speech/Language Therapies, and Counseling are built right into the school day.For many neurodivergent students, everyday tasks like navigating a busy hallway or participating in group discussions can be obstacles that get in the way of learning. Our Integrated Therapies program meets these challenges head-on.

  • Occupational Therapy helps students develop the motor and sensory skills they need to participate confidently in class.
  • Speech-Language Therapy strengthens the ability to express ideas and to understand others.
  • Counseling supports students as they manage emotions, solve problems, and build strategies for independence.

By embedding these services into the school day, we make sure each student has the support they need, exactly when and where it matters most.

Occupational Therapy

Some students struggle with tasks that seem simple: holding a pencil, using classroom tools, or managing sensory input in a noisy room. Research shows that school-based OT can support these students by targeting the motor and sensory skills that make learning possible (aota.org).

Working one-on-one, our occupational therapist helps students develop strategies that translate to everyday life. They practice motor skills and sensory management using tools like treadmills, resistance bands, and other equipment they can easily acquire as adults. This approach helps them take the skills they learn at school and carry them over into daily life beyond high school.

Counseling Services

High school brings change and stress, and neurodivergent students often need extra support navigating social and emotional challenges. Our school psychologist provides one-on-one and small-group support, helping students manage emotions, and build social skills. Counseling is built into the school day, so students get help when it matters without missing instruction.

Speech-Language Therapy

Our speech-language pathologists address articulation, comprehension, social communication, pragmatic skills, and bring therapy into the classroom so students can practice in real-life situations. Evidence shows that school-based speech therapy strengthens communication and social integration, which supports academic success and peer relationships (asha.org). Literacy skills also improve, helping students feel more confident in reading and writing.

Ethan receives individualized speech therapy at Miriam, with small class sizes allowing his teachers and speech pathologist to provide tailored support, like a quiet visual cue to help with a small oral habit.

A Problem-Solving Approach

Integrated Therapy isn’t about generic support. It’s about identifying each student’s challenges, testing solutions, and giving them tools they can actually use. OT, speech therapy, and counseling come together to help students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
