Karen Cross is a Special Educator at Miriam High School.
She joined Miriam initially at the Lower/Middle School because she wanted to be part of an organization/team that exalted all children while aiding or shaping them into becoming their best self in a nonjudgmental environment.
Before joining Miriam, she taught at the Edwardsville School District as an Instructional Aide, and has worked in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. She was also a Community Education Director for a nonprofit before coming to Miriam.
She has a BS in Speech Pathology/Education from Illinois State University, an Ed. in Educational Administration with emphasis in Community Education and an Ed. Adult & Higher Education with emphasis in Adult Education from University of Missouri, St. Louis (UMSL), and she is currently pursuing a PhD in Education/Leadership & Policy from University of Missouri, St. Louis (UMSL).
In the early years of pursuing her professional career, she also served as a member of the Naval Reserve and served a tour in Afghanistan. After returning from her tour, she served as a Funeral Honors Personnel giving military honor for deceased sailors.
