Karen Cross is a special educator at Miriam’s Lower School and currently teaches students around the 4th-6th grade age range.
She began her teaching career at the Edwardsville School District as an Instructional Aide, and has worked in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. She was also a Community Education Director for a nonprofit before coming to Miriam.
She joined Miriam because she wanted to be part of an organization/team that exalted all children while aiding or shaping them into becoming their best self in a nonjudgmental environment.
She has a BS in Speech Pathology/Education from Illinois State University, an Ed. in Educational Administration with emphasis in Community Education and an Ed. Adult & Higher Education with emphasis in Adult Education from University of Missouri, St. Louis (UMSL), and she is currently pursuing a PhD in Education/Leadership & Policy from University of Missouri, St. Louis (UMSL).
In the early years of pursuing her professional career, she also served as a member of the Naval Reserve and served a tour in Afghanistan. After returning from her tour, she served as a Funeral Honors Personnel giving military honor for deceased sailors.
