Diagnostics

The Cornelsen Diagnostic Center is an integral part of the Learning Center that serves hundreds of children each year. It provides IQ and educational diagnostics, psychological assessments, Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), and occupational, speech/language, and physical therapy evaluations for children ages 2 to 18.  These assessments are needed to help diagnose learning disabilities, ADHD, Autism, speech/language delays, sensory integration disorder, anxiety, depression and other conditions that may impact a student’s learning and functioning at home and school.  They provide parents with a pathway that will help their child achieve his or her potential. All assessments can be conducted at the Learning Center or, with permission, at the child's school. Need-based financial assistance may be available for testing, just fill out a Financial Aid Application.

In-School Supports

The Learning Center’s certified, special education teachers, occupational therapists, speech/language pathologists, counselors, behavior aides, and diagnosticians easily push into schools to support children who may need more assistance than what their school can provide. Services are contracted with the parent and schedules are arranged with the school’s educators to maximize a child’s learning potential. A minimum of 60 minutes is required for an in-school session. The frequency, duration, and type of service are based upon each child’s needs. Children do not need to have a disability to receive push in services.

Tutoring

The Learning Center’s certified, special education teachers provide individual tutoring to improve reading, math, and/or written expression skills for children who learn in non-traditional ways. The Learning Center’s teachers understand the special educational needs of children with ADHD, Autism, and/or a learning disability. Research-based programs such as Orton-Gillingham - including SPIRE and Wilson, TouchMath, Step Up To Writing, and other multi-sensory approaches are used to help students improve academics areas in which they are struggling.

Certified tutors will provide instruction at the Learning Center or, with permission, at the child’s school. Daytime, after school and evening hours are available.
