“I accepted (this position) because I desired to be a part of an organization that keeps students’ needs first, and has the vision to create a position to ensure transition needs are met.”
Terri Pruitt fills a brand new position at Miriam Academy – Associate Head of Transition Services. She will meet with each student to map out a plan for their lives after Miriam. Terri will not only work with the students, but with their families. When discussing transition services, Terri sees the three options for next steps as college, workforce or vocational rehabilitation. “I will be the guide for students and families in preparing them based on their desires and abilities to walk proudly into the next phase of their lives.”
Terri began her career in education as a social studies teacher for St. Louis Public Schools. She has since worked in several school districts and charter schools, becoming interested in special education and administration. She most recently worked as an administrator for another school that serves students who have special needs.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in history, as well as master’s degrees in secondary education, history and educational leadership. Terri also holds certification for principal and teaching in Missouri and Illinois.
“The opportunity to assist Miriam Academy students in transitioning to the next phase of their life is an exciting journey to embark on with the families here,” Terri says. “I am looking forward to meeting the students and becoming a partner with them in developing their life’s plan. This is a very important assignment that I take very seriously.”
When she’s not working, Terri is active in her church and also loves to read. She says a perfect day outside of work would consist of spending time with her husband, adult daughter and soon-to-be son-in-law, and the family pets, a 12-year-old Maltese mix and a 5-month-old Boxer.
An interesting fact about Terri? “I secretly see myself performing on Broadway. I sing every chance I get. Even when people don’t ask…”
Welcome, Terri!
