Empowering Unique Learners

Reading Tutoring

We understand that one size does not fit all when it comes to specialized tutoring support for your child’s educational needs. Serving families in St. Louis City, St. Louis County and St. Charles County, we customize our tutoring to accommodate each child’s unique learning style and strengths.

Miriam’s reading tutoring program can offer research-based interventions that use the Orton-Gillingham approach to reading instruction. This approach provides students and teachers with a structured, multi-sensory method for teaching reading and spelling that focuses on phonics and language structure. Orton-Gillingham methods may include SPIRE or Wilson reading interventions that allow the professional tutor to select partial or full programs to build skills or fill in learning gaps. Particularly with older children, they may have missed portions of phonics and other skills that now prevent them from having adequate reading fluency or comprehension.

Because our tutors do not use just one method to teach reading, we are able to select different avenues to get the best results for younger and older children who are struggling to read. The Orton-Gillingham methods are very effective for children who have learning disabilities. We have learning disability tutors who have much experience working with children with Dyslexia and who have successfully helped them to learn to read. The programs are also beneficial for students without disabilities who are having difficulties learning to read. Through our experience, we know that not all students are able to learn to read by sounding out words. In these circumstances, phonics-based programs may not be appropriate. Because our teachers are specialists, they can pivot to other reading programs that use other methods.
