Miriam Learning Center offers a variety of therapy services including music, speech, language, occupational, and physical therapy, designed to help children progress towards age-appropriate skills. We schedule therapies on the same day and at the same time each week for 35 or 50-minute sessions.

Our therapists individualize all goals to help work on each child’s unique needs. We offer services at the Learning Center or, with permission, at the child’s school. We do not accept/bill insurance and we are out-of-network for all therapy services.

Occupational Therapy

Many children who attend Miriam Learning Center for occupational therapy have difficulty with fine motor skills such as handwriting, typing, and shoe tying. They often struggle with jumping, running, and hopping and can have sensory issues with sounds, smells, and food textures that make focusing at school problematic. Our licensed pediatric occupational therapists help children learn to calm their sensory seeking/avoiding bodies and gain age appropriate fine and gross motor skills.

Speech/Language Therapy

Miriam Learning Center’s speech and language therapy helps children learn to communicate. The Center specializes in helping children who have articulation and communication processing issues. These problems may be related to Apraxia, selective mutism, expressive and/or receptive language disorders, and autism.

Children usually attend speech or language therapy once a week for 35 or 50 minutes, and when appropriate, they are given home programs to continue progress throughout the remainder of the week. Services can also be provided at the Learning Center or, with permission, at the child’s school.

Music Therapy

Music therapy engages children in musical activities to reduce anxiety, improve cognitive functioning, promote physical rehabilitation, or enhance interpersonal communication. Our certified music therapist encourages children to listen to music, sing, play musical instruments, or compose music to progress towards each child’s therapeutic goals.

Behavioral Therapy

Physical Therapy

Some children have difficulty walking, running, or performing other age appropriate motor skills. This can be caused by a medical condition or general low muscle control and/or weakness. Through physical therapy exercises and practice, our licensed Physical Therapist helps children improve their functional and gross motor abilities.

Behavioral Therapy

Miriam Learning Center’s Master’s level licensed professionals can help evaluate problematic behaviors that interfere with a child’s academics, social communication skills, and home life. When needed, Learning Center clinicians can observe a child in his or her school or within the home to get a better understanding of the presenting issues. Because we have occupational and speech/language therapists on staff, social communication and sensory recommendations can also be incorporated into the behavior interventions. We provide behavior therapy from a cognitive behavior model, and we also offer Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). This service is provided with our Board Certified Behavior Analyst.

A Behavior Aide can go to a child’s school to provide academic and social/emotional support while following a Functional Behavior Plan designed to increase desirable behaviors. A 37.5 hour per week minimum is required.
