Psychological Testing
Serving families in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, and St. Charles County, our diagnostic assessments are designed to identify factors impacting academic and social success. By identifying individual strengths and challenges, we provide personalized recommendations to support your child’s success.
Frequently, children with learning differences have social and/or emotional challenges that can compound academic problems. These issues can include depression, anxiety, low self-concept, behavior disorders and other mental health concerns. Miriam’s experienced licensed mental health professionals can assess and evaluate your child to identify social and emotional causes that may affect academic performance. Once our professionals identify the issue, they come up with a treatment pathway to decrease symptoms and improve your child’s health and functioning.
Assessment Process
We can usually schedule psychological testing within two weeks of the referral. Children attend one, two-hour testing session so the social worker or licensed counselor can gather observational and clinical information. Parents will be required to complete assessment forms to help with diagnostics. With parent permission, we will also send the assessment forms to the child’s school. If we suspect a child has symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD/ADD), we have to verify that symptoms are present in two environments. Therefore, in this circumstance, schools are required to fill out forms.
At your first meeting, our master’s level, Missouri Licensed Clinician will interview you to get a better understanding of your child’s developmental history and areas of concern. Once we receive rating scales from you and the school, the clinician will compile all of the information to determine if your child has ADHD or other conditions with similar symptoms. The mental health professional may render a diagnosis using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Disorders (DSM-5-TR), the same medical diagnosis manual that psychiatrists, doctors and psychologists use. We provide a medical diagnosis, and the testing report can be presented to a public school for consideration of an educational diagnosis of Other Health Impairment during the IDEA eligibility process. Our licensed clinician will review the evaluation results with you and anyone else you wish to include. This consultation will last up to one hour. Teleservices are also available to review reports.
