Language Testing

Serving families in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, and St. Charles County, our diagnostic assessments are designed to identify factors impacting academic and social success. By identifying individual strengths and challenges, we provide personalized recommendations to support your child’s success.

Language testing helps to identify any issues that your child may be having that affect his or her ability to understand what other people are saying, to follow oral or written directions, to organize their thoughts so that others can understand what they are trying to convey, and/or to use appropriate social language. We can evaluate children in language and speech at ages 3 to 18.

We use various standardized tests to evaluate each area. Our certified speech/language pathologist (SLP) compares your child’s performance to other children their age. This will tell you and the SLP if your child’s skills are on target or are an area of concern.

When needed, language evaluations include a speech evaluation. We can usually schedule a language evaluation within two weeks of the referral. Children attend one to two, two-hour sessions.

The SLP will first meet with one or both parents to get a better understanding of the child’s developmental history and areas of concern. The evaluator will take a language sample, and formal testing will occur. After we complete testing, the evaluator finalizes results in a formal evaluation report. Our speech/language pathologist will review the evaluation results with you and anyone else you wish to include. This consultation usually lasts about one hour.
