ADHD / ADD Testing
Serving families in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, and St. Charles County, our diagnostic assessments are designed to identify factors impacting academic and social success. By identifying individual strengths and challenges, we provide personalized recommendations to support your child’s success.
Children who struggle at school and at home because they are not able to focus, cannot sit still to pay attention, or lack organizational skills to the point that their grades are suffering may have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). ADHD has symptoms that look like attention, memory and organization issues, impulsivity and/or hyperactivity. Children may also seem to lack emotional control through outbursts or being silly. Some have a hard time with peer relationships due to impulsive behaviors and they may seem to lack boundaries with others. Students with ADHD/ADD can sometimes hold it together at school through sheer willpower but fall apart when they get home because it is a safe place to be themselves.
Comprehensive Evaluations
The Miriam Learning Center can provide a comprehensive ADHD evaluation to rule out other types of conditions that may be causing similar symptoms and to diagnose Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Our ADHD assessment includes a developmental history, in-depth clinical interviews with the child and family, and ADHD and behavior rating scales. Because ADHD symptoms must be present in two environments in order to diagnose a child with this condition, schools are also required to fill out assessment forms. Although schools may be aware we are evaluating your child, no results become part of the child’s educational record unless you choose to present the information to your child’s school.
Scheduling and Testing Process
We can usually schedule ADHD testing within two weeks of the referral. Children attend one, two-hour testing session. After we complete testing and receive all rating scales, the licensed evaluator will compile a report and meet with you to review the results. This meeting will last about one hour.
