Empowering Unique Learners

Summer Camp

Specialty summer camps for children who need expert support.

Miriam School and Learning Center’s academic and social skills specialty camps are ideal for children entering grades K-8 who need specialized learning programs to progress. Families choose Miriam’s summer camps because their children receive personalized instruction that accommodates campers who learn differently. Small groups, a variety of research-based interventions, and certified/licensed professionals ensure campers receive the specialized attention they need to improve self-confidence and build skills. Miriam camps serves students with or without diagnosed disabilities. Camp registration is currently closed, but you can be the first to know when it opens by subscribing to our newsletter!

I loved how staff were able to make the camp experience both fun and educational.  My son looked forward to camp every day and had completely changed his opinion on reading!  He has started choosing independent reading time over time on his tablet.  We are so pleased with his growth in the past three weeks.

Qualified Staff

Summer Camp FUNdamentals help participants maintain or boost organizational abilities, reading, writing, and/or social-emotional skills during the summer months. Our certified or licensed teachers and therapists have formalized and extensive training that is needed to help children learn and grow. Each academic instructor has a Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) teaching certificate in special education or a reading certification. Social skills therapists hold licensure through the State of Missouri as a speech/language pathologist, occupational therapist, music therapist, or a licensed professional counselor or social worker. Miriam professionals have many years of experience teaching those with learning differences from language disorders, ADHD/ADD, Autism and specific learning disorders such as Dyslexia and Dysgraphia.

Individualized and Research-Based Instruction

Our staff understand that each child is unique and that children learn in different ways. Miriam camps are not one-size-fits-all. This means that we pick from a variety of curriculum to best fit a child’s learning style and that instructors customize lessons to the needs of participants. By using a variety of research-based programming for academic and social-emotional skills interventions, we can draw upon each child’s strengths and fill in learning gaps. Programs such as Wilson, SPIRE, Step Up to Writing, Rewards, and Zones of Regulation, just to name a few, ensure interventions are proven and effective. We add fun activities into each session to ensure participants have an exciting camp experience while they learn.

Small Class Sizes

Miriam’s camp sessions accommodate about 40-50 children. Depending upon the camp, each group has four to 10 participants and one to two staff members. Because we keep the camp and class sizes small, we are able to focus on the individual needs of each student. We get to know campers on a personal basis and help them figure out strategies so they can learn and grow. Children must benefit from our staff-to-camper ratios in order to participate in camp. Although we maintain very small groups in all of our camps, unfortunately, we cannot accommodate children who require 1:1 support or a paraprofessional, learn at a slower pace due to cognitive delays, or have toileting accidents or significant behaviors.

Camp Days and Hours

Miriam offers two, three-week summer camp sessions, one in June and the other in July. There is no summer camp on Juneteenth and the week of July 4. Campers may attend one or both sessions. All activities change each session, so campers get a new experience each time they attend camp. Families may choose a half-day camp in the morning (8am – 11am) or in the afternoon (Noon – 3pm) or a full-day camp experience (8am – 3pm) by combining two half-day camps.

Financial Aid

Financial aid is available on a first-come, first-served basis for families who have adjusted gross incomes of less than $80,000. Just complete a financial aid form and provide the required documentation when you apply for camp, and we will get back to you within 48 business hours if you qualify for aid. Unfortunately, due to our small group sizes, we cannot provide any camp refunds, and children may not switch camps after April 30.

Miriam is such a wonderful resource in our community. The camps offer support during the summer when school is out, and I especially appreciate the executive function and social skills camps.
