Dear Miriam Community,
Thank you for your support in 2019-2020! While our world took an unexpected turn in early 2020, Miriam had a number of successes during the year – thanks, in large part, to your generosity!
When Covid-19 hit and the world shut down, Miriam staff, faculty and students pivoted bravely and beautifully to the world of remote learning. Academics, occupational therapy and speech therapy were all delivered online. Miriam School staff personally delivered eighth-grade certificates to the students’ homes, and Miriam Academy staff visited seniors’ homes with yard signs and gifts. The Academy postponed graduation until we could safely gather – outdoors, masked and socially distanced – during the summer.
The renovations to our permanent home for Miriam Academy and Foundation were well underway prior to the pandemic. Thanks to support provided by Miriam’s Building on Success campaign and the hard work of the school’s administration, architects and construction crew, our high school was able to open for in-person learning in its new location in August 2020!
As a result of the pandemic, our families’ need for tuition assistance increased during 2020, and Miriam was able to increase the aid we distributed to meet those needs. This was made possible by our Annual Fund donors, as well as the nearly $60,000 raised for our Emergency Tuition Assistance Fund on Give STL Day in May.
Miriam programs are strong and fulfilling a critical need in the St. Louis region. Our unique learners have found a place where they are welcomed and embraced for who they are, where they receive the individualized curriculum and therapies they need, and where they learn to advocate for themselves. Miriam provides the foundation for our students to reach their potential and to confidently look forward to success in the future.
