Local Mayors Visit Miriam to Learn About Community Impact
Katie Stalter

On a recent visit to Miriam Lower/Middle School in Webster Groves, Mayor Laura Arnold had the opportunity to see firsthand the positive influence the school has on the community in Webster and beyond, and its dedication to serving unique learners in St. Louis. Mayor Arnold was deeply impressed by the innovative programs and individualized support that Miriam provides, particularly in fostering an environment where all students can thrive.

A few days later, Olivette Mayor Missy Walkman toured the high school to see the growth since the building first opened. She told Miriam representatives that she was impressed with the program and that as a former social worker, she understood the good work we were doing at Miriam.

Miriam has an ongoing commitment to engage with the surrounding community and continually works to make meaningful connections with local organizations. The mayor's visit highlights that dedication and allowed Miriam leaders to discuss the educational opportunities our school offers for diverse learners. It was a proud moment for Miriam to showcase our work, and we are grateful that Mayors Arnold and Walkman took time out of their busy schedules to learn more about the positive difference being made every day.

I AM #ChangingTheNarrative

At Miriam, we know children must not be defined by their challenges. Miriam is #changingthenarrative about students with disabilities or learning challenges by focusing on their strengths. Our students are seen and celebrated for all that they are.

On Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, my daughter Lucy and I had the privilege of visiting the Pearl Harbor National Memorial. We were among hundreds of people from around the world who had gathered to pay our respects and reflect on the sacrifices made for freedom and peace. Standing in that sacred space on a day dedicated to Dr. King’s legacy, during the week of the presidential inauguration, provided a powerful day of reflection.
