A Message from the Head of School, Meg Bamford - November 2025
Meg Bamford | Head of Miriam School and Learning Center

Dear Miriam Community,

As Albert Schweitzer once said, “I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I do know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.”

This week, Miriam K-12 held our annual school-wide Veterans Day assemblies to teach children about what it means to be a veteran. We talked about the courage and sacrifice that it takes to serve and the deep, unconditional love for our country that every service member embodies.

One of the most important things we do at Miriam is to introduce the idea that although November 11th  is the named holiday honoring our veterans, it is important to thank our members of the armed forces and first responders each and every day. We want our children to gain the skill of gratitude and to understand the sacrifices so many make to keep us safe.

At Miriam, we are committed to instilling in our children the belief that they are competent, amazing people who have something wonderful to offer this world. It is our hope that throughout their time at our school, our children identify their unique talents and strengths and are able to see how they personally can contribute to making this world a better place.

On behalf of Miriam, I want to express our gratitude  to all who served and continue to serve our country. We also recognize their families who make so many sacrifices for this great gift to be bestowed on us.

Paper stars with those four school values - along with the students’ names - wallpaper the windows around the school office. Whether it’s helping a peer or taking a deep breath during a difficult moment, school staff hand out stars when they see a student leaning into one of these four values - providing immediate, visual proof that their positive choices are noticed.

Today I was reminded of the lasting connections cast here when I had the privilege of giving one of our alumni, Isaac, and his father a tour of our Lower/Middle School Campus. Isaac is now considering a career in special education and is seeking a volunteer opportunity with us.
