A Legacy of Connection: The Lasting Impact of the Miriam Difference - A Message from the Head of School, Meg Bamford - October 2025
Meg Bamford | Head of Miriam School and Learning Center

Dear Miriam Community,

Wishing you and your family a glorious fall afternoon!

Today I was reminded of the lasting connections cast here when I had the privilege of giving one of our alumni, Isaac, and his father a tour of our Lower/Middle School Campus. Isaac is now considering a career in special education and is seeking a volunteer opportunity with us. He and his brother attended Miriam years ago when they were much younger—and notably, much shorter! Although Isaac was with us for only two years, it is clear that those years had a profoundly impactful effect on this young man. What was truly striking as we walked the halls was the genuine elation of the staff members who had worked with Isaac over a decade ago. The deep connection, mutual respect, and meaningful relationships, which are such a fundamental part of the Miriam difference, still run profoundly deep, even after such a long period of time. This interaction was a powerful reminder that our mission extends far beyond the academic calendar.

This experience of enduring connection couldn't be timelier as we look forward to our Admissions Open House this Sunday. We understand that the decision to find the right school is often filled with emotion and hope, and we are committed to showing prospective families how Miriam provides not just an education, but a stable, supportive, and profoundly impactful school environment where every child is seen, understood, and positioned for their own long-term success. We hope to welcome many new faces this weekend and begin to build their version of the "Miriam difference." The Open House will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at the Lower/Middle School on our Webster Groves Campus and from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the High School campus in Olivette. (We currently have a few open slots at both campuses for the upcoming school year, and we are excited to begin discussing admission with new families for the 2026-2027 school year.)

Miriam alumni are unique; students typically stay with us for the amount of time they need our nurturing environment and specialized approach. Some children stay with us for the duration of their educational journey because we can offer a strength-based approach that nurtures their unique talents and gifts. Our ultimate goal is to prepare children for their next chapter in life and set them up for success. And like our personalized learning plans, every child and every situation is unique.

Because our program spans from kindergarten to high school, students can join and leave at any time based on their successful acquisition of skills and the confidence they gain in our school. But, as Isaac reminded us this afternoon, our impact and those enduring connections are permanent. We are excited to help foster these bonds and celebrate the legacy of our students. We invite all former students to join us for our annual Alumni Bowling Event on Thursday, December 14th.

With gratitude for your support and love for our mission,

Meg Bamford, Head of Miriam School and Learning Center

In the News: Navigating new routines during back-to-school season

Often, returning to a school year routine can be an adjustment for students, something parents can begin preparing for in the weeks prior to the school year beginning.

“It’s really a good idea to sit with your child and make a check-list for their morning routine,” said Meg Bamford of Miriam School and Learning Center. “What are the things you need to do on their own to get ready in the morning?”
