Empowering Unique Learners

I AM #ChangingTheNarrative

Welcome to Miriam School and Learning Center, where we put students who learn differently at the center of everything we do, providing a tailored educational experience determined by each student’s individual needs and strengths.

At Miriam, we know children must not be defined by their challenges. Miriam is #changingthenarrative about students with disabilities or learning challenges by focusing on their strengths. Our students are seen and celebrated for all that they are.

We also know that when children are confident in their strengths, they are also more confident in trying and learning new things. Students need to know they can be dyslexic and a great friend, autistic and smart, struggle with ADHD and be an amazing musician.

We are helping the world to acknowledge the great gifts these students have to offer, instead of focusing on their struggles. Our strengths-based approach helps students love to learn again. Children grow in their self-confidence, advocacy and self-regulation skills, problem-solving abilities, and their willingness to socialize with peers and engage with the world around them.  Research-based academic interventions help students progress toward the appropriate grade level in reading, math and writing. Our children experience success because they feel supported and loved.

Meet our Students

We meet the needs of children in the St. Louis area with neurodiverse learning needs, such as: autism, dyslexia, ADHD, sensory processing challenges, speech/language disorders and anxiety. With low student-to-faculty ratios, multi-grade classrooms and integrated therapies available throughout the day, we create an environment where students feel valued and supported both academically and socially.

How to Help?

You too can help support children who have educational hurdles see their strengths and feel empowered.

  • Focus on what they can do.

  • Figure out ways for them to do things differently, so they can succeed.

  • Teach things in a way they learn best.

  • Accept each child as a unique individual.
  • Celebrate quirkiness.
  • Provide praise not criticism.
  • Foster talents.
  • Engage in your child’s schoolwork and progress.

Want to help Miriam change the narrative?

By working together to amplify their strengths, our youth will contribute wonderful things that will positively influence our world.

Miriam understands the needs of kids who learn differently! At public school, I was made to feel like I was just an overprotective mother. At Miriam, they understood and agreed that my child needed extra help and wasn’t just lazy.
