2023-2024 Annual Report

Dear Miriam Community,

As St. Louis begins to thaw from a long, snowy winter, our organization is vibrant with a community working together to change the trajectory of children’s lives.

Our K-12 program in Webster Groves and Olivette are places of promise where potential and real progress connect. Our children’s brains are open for learning with the deep connections, meaningful specialized instruction, partnership with families and integrated therapies. Miriam’s Learning Center continues to serve over 1,600 children, providing services in nearly 100 schools throughout Greater St. Louis. Our  Switching Post, a work of heart, continues to work to provide our students with financial assistance. Miriam’s mission is fulfilled because of your support, partnership and commitment to our unique learners.

There are many celebrations to acknowledge from last year. We had two very large graduating classes in both eighth grade and our high school seniors. One hundred percent of our students have been successful in programs that meet their needs, and 17 out of 21 2024 graduates are attending a two-year, four-year or supported college program.

We hosted our sold-out inaugural Minds in Bloom Spring Soiree in April, looking to provide a pathway for students to afford our school.

We have spent a great deal of time focusing on where Miriam is now, and what we need to do to  position ourselves for the future by collecting data and other information to guide our way. Our new 2025-2028  Strategic Plan is so exciting. I encourage you to read it and reach out with any ideas, questions or feedback.

It is clear that Miriam is at a wonderful crossroads. We are positioned to provide services, support and relief to the  families and educators whose children are not able to access the magic of Miriam. We believe we can be a model for  other schools and build capacity in educators who are exhausted and struggling in the special education field.

It is also clear Miriam needs to be financially accessible for our current students and those in the decades to come. To  receive the specialized instruction and therapies to optimize a child’s potential, we believe should not be dictated by ability to pay. Miriam’s specialized hub has flourished in the past five years. A critical look at our efficiencies,  leveraging our resources and aligning our staff to meet the needs of the community are also priorities.

Our students are incredible people who truly have gifts to be productive, loyal, happy citizens. Our experiential  hands-on learning experiences and exposure to post-secondary opportunities, particularly at the high school level, will lead to us being able to give back at an even greater rate to Greater St. Louis. With every good wish,

Wish every good wish,

Meg Bamford
Head of Miriam School and Learning Center
