Our DEIB Philosophy
Miriam School and Learning Center is committed to creating equity and a sense of belonging for all of our students, their families, our employees, and everyone who is a part of the Miriam community. The Miriam organization fully embraces each student and adult involved with our organization, and we celebrate the unique gifts, strengths and talents he/she/they bring to our community and to this world. We strive to provide a supportive and open environment where all people feel a sense of belonging to our community. Miriam works hard to provide families with resources so they can equally access our services.
Our DEIB Journey
Taking active, genuine steps to becoming more diverse, inclusive, and equitable is one of our highest priorities. In January 2020, Miriam formed a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) committee to formally begin a strategic effort to work toward being a more inclusive and equitable organization. This committee constructed our Statement of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging, and in 2021, they administered a Miriam-wide, empirically based Assessment of Inclusivity and Multiculturalism purchased from the National Association of Independent Schools. Because of the importance of this initiative, the DEIB committee moved to a Board committee in 2022, and work began in the areas identified through the survey. In January 2023, we shared the survey results with Miriam parents, staff, and other stakeholders, and began dialogues that will help us continue to move forward in our DEIB journey.
